La Profe y sus cosas

  • ¡Hola a todos!

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Olaya Cuervo-González. I am from Gijón, Asturias, in the northern part of España. I will be your Spanish teacher over the next two years (hopefully). During this time, students will complete the equivalent of Spanish I.

In Spain, I lived with my family: my father -a merchant sailor close to retirement, my mother -a housewife and my brother -a Mechanical Engineer. I have a degree in English Philology. This is the highest English degree possible in Spanish universities. The degree focused on English and American language, as well as literature and history. I have more than 10 years in language teaching experience. I have had the opportunity to live in several places: Madrid and Barcelona in Spain, Aarhus in Denmark and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 2014 I have got my second master’s degree in Audiovisual Translation by the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona.

I have very high expectations in this program. The earlier a student begins to study a language, the easier and faster he/she will learn it. I am glad to be the person with whom they will have their first Spanish approach. We all know that in the 21st century it is beneficial to acquire a second language and its culture. It is imperative, not only for being ready for working life, but also for educating a new generation. I will focus on understanding values of other societies, and learning to “respect and tolerate” other cultures.

I am full of energy and ready to start!

¡Nos vemos en clase! (See you in class!)
