Starting in the 2016-2017 school year, all 5th graders at Jackson Local Schools will create digital book trailers in our Book Trailer Creator Program.
A book trailer is a video commercial that advertises a book and encourages others to read it.
This program's launch has been supported by Jackson Local Schools, a Library Services and Technology Act Grant administered through the State Library of Ohio, and a James Patterson & Scholastic Book Club Grant.
In this program, 5th graders create book trailers using WeVideo.com, a web-based video editing tool. Book trailer instruction is organized by elementary library staff, delivered using Blended Learning techniques using Google Classroom and direct instruction, and takes place during 5th grade Tech Class. 5th grade teachers and elementary library staff are vital components to the success of the Book Trailer Creator Program.
Book trailers will be showcased at our first annual Film Festival, to be held at the end of the year at each elementary building. Students may also choose to submit their book trailer to INFOhio's BookNook, a website for Ohio students that showcases student-created materials.
